Blessed Rosh Hashanah 5782! This evening begins the Jewish New Year; literally “head of the year.” Also known as The Feast of Trumpets, the blowing of the shofar calls believers in Yeshua Messiah to come back to the cross and into our Father’s arms!
The Jewish calendar is always significant not only for God’s chosen natural seed, Israel, but to those who believe and have put their trust in Jesus. Every Jewish holiday is the Lord’s appointed time and is significant for Christians also as it points to Jesus, the fulfillment of His finished work, His rapture and return!
To the Jewish people, the sound of the shofar reminded the Israelites of the Lord’s faithfulness. For us, it’s a proclamation of His faithfulness through His Son’s death that avails for you!
At the exact time of His crucifixion, when the Jewish priest was sacrificing an animal in the Temple, Jesus, the Spotless Ram, our Perfect Sacrifice and Substitute, was giving up His life for us on Calvary. The moment the sacrifice was complete, the shofar was blown. This was happening at the exact moment Jesus expired on the cross.
Yes, the blowing of the shofar also points to the moment when the bride of Christ will be raptured in the twinkling of an eye in the Trumpet blast of God (1 Thessalonians 4:16), but for us now, it is a declaration that evil is now under our feet and we are seated in Perfect Love where fear cannot exist.
It originates from Leviticus 23: 23-25, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. On the first day of the appointed month in early autumn, you are to observe a day of complete REST. It will be an official day for holy assembly, a day commemorated with loud blasts of a trumpet. You must do no ordinary work on that day. Instead, you are to present special gifts to the Lord” (NLT).
Today, Jesus IS our complete REST! His complete purging of your sins and mine, was the True Trumpet blasting: “ACCOMPLISHED!” After being raised from the dead, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High and took you and me with Him in complete Victory (Hebrews 1:3)!
So today, while we honor and bless Jews around the world as they celebrate and keep this High Holy Day, we also shout with blasts of praise to our Father for giving us eternal, resurrection life and favor in our Precious Savior!
“Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet drink, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.”
Nehemiah 8:10 AMPC
