“For I AM the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
Isaiah 41:13
You may wonder why when the Lord holds your hand, He takes hold of your right hand. Well, your right hand (man’s dominant hand) speaks of your efforts, your abilities, your devotion. In other words, your doing. But HIS right hand speaks of Jesus and HIS doing!
It has never been about our love or devotion to Him. We are weak, inconstant and ever changing. We’re up one minute and down the next. We fail, we fall, we feel with roller coaster emotions. We get discouraged, depressed and disheartened.
But Jesus never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. And it’s always been about His love, dedication, loyalty and faithfulness to us.
“Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand…my flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:23, 26
Your Savior wants to be your strength. The only Perfect One wants to be your power and provision. He wants you to cease from striving to live the Christian life so He can live it through you. He wants you to trust more instead of trying harder. He wants to lead you into deeper communion and intimacy with Him so you can let go of faking it FOR Him.
Beloved, Jesus Himself IS the Father’s right hand (Psalm 44:3). He sat down there after completely accomplishing the cleansing of your sins! His work is finished! You are spotless! You are new! And you are seated in Him! (See Hebrews 1:3).
And now He wants to be YOUR right hand, where He’ll replace your exhaustion with His grace. That heavenly place of coming to the end of yourself so you can once again come to Him as you are.
When you realize He already has a tender yet firm grasp on you, you can let go of all else and receive from Him. You can release your worries, fears, anxieties and tears into His hand. No matter what you’re going through, He is continually with you; closer than your breath. His love cascading over you…His resurrection life pulsating inside you.
In childlike trust, when you loosen your grip by relinquishing control, your Papa takes your right hand to fill it with eternal pleasures paid for at the cross. The abundant blessings you can’t earn.
His healing, restoration, provision and breakthrough…your needs and your desires are freely supplied. And you possess them by simply trusting in His unconditional love and goodness. Talk to him about them. Then simply thank Him for them.
“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:11 AMPC
When Jesus, after His resurrection, fed the ones He loved, His very heart and nature was revealed to them (see John 21:1-6). They had gone out in their boat and in their own strength all night and caught nothing.
So Jesus, knowing they had nada (mind you, this was their life, their job, their livelihood and their food source), told them to cast their net out on the right side of the boat (the place of His finished work, provision and receiving). And when they did, their catch was so big, their fish so many… they were not even able to haul it all in! This is your God! This is your Abba!
So today, if you are feeling weak, strapped or just plain down-and-out, don’t be afraid. Let yourself be loved by letting your Father affectionately take your fragile hand in His Mighty One.
Let Him lift you up out of your pit and over your stumbling blocks. Let Him swing you around so that you’re face to face with His eyes of adoration, His smile of acceptance and His pure joy for you. Let Him be God. Let yourself be His child.
Then, hand in HAND, He’ll guide you THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death (where there’s a shadow there is Light first;). Hand in HAND, He’ll be your ever present help in trouble. Hand in HAND, He’ll take you to places of abundance you’ve never been before.
