Depend On The Lord Alone

“No soul can be really at rest until it has given up all dependence on everything else and has been forced to depend on the Lord alone. As long as our expectation is from other things, nothing but disappointment awaits us.”
-Hannah Whitall Smith

True, real and lasting REST is a Person. From Jesus alone comes your acceptance, purpose, deliverance, welfare, health, prosperity, victory and most importantly your CONTENTMENT.

Do you find yourself thinking that if you were only in a different situation, could achieve a certain goal or had some material possession you would have more security, joy or peace? Those outward experiences will never fully satisfy your soul.

Does your Heavenly Daddy care about the desires of your heart? Does He desire to lavish you with His very best? A thousand times YES. He is a profoundly good Father who did not spare His own Son, but gave him up for you, and IN HIM freely gives you all things (Romans 8:32).

But to be dependent on those things as your happiness is a grave mistake. The manifestation thereof will not bring you internal rest. Jesus, who IS your life wants you to lean on, trust in and enjoy Him wholly in every moment and season despite your circumstances. Not as the world gives does He give.

He Himself is your peace, comfort, certainty and security. He wants your soul to prosper by being rooted and grounded in His perfect love; love that dispels your fear because you’ve been forgiven.

He wants you to rely on His grace (UNDESERVED blessings, provision, protection, help and goodness) that is sufficient for you because He has made you flawless in God’s eyes by His own blood.

It’s in quiet confidence in His presence you will find your wholeness and freedom. He is most concerned with you finding your gratification in your union with Him and His Lordship over your life.

“In returning [to Me] and resting [in Me] you shall be saved; in quietness and in [trusting] confidence shall be your strength.”Isaiah‬ ‭30:15‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

So, while you wait with positive expectancy for what you’ve been hoping for, choose to return to His present kindness and care for you. Cease from fretting and calm your soul in His sovereignty. For in settling down in complete dependence on Jesus, you will experience His saving power here and now.

“Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me [ceased from fretting].”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭131:2‬ ‭AMPC‬‬
